이번 수요일은 우리의 마지막 문화 수업이었어요. 수업 주제가 한국 드라마였어요. 대부분의 학생들이 드라마를 많이 봐서 낯설지 않았어요. 좋아하는 드라마에 대해 애기하면서 학생들이 아주 신났어요. 가장 최근에 나온 인기 드라마라서 도깨비에 많이 집중했어요. 즐겨 봤던 드라마를 통해 새로운 단어와 한국 신화를 배울 수 있어서 좋았어요. 5주 동안 다른 수업 보다 좀 더 자유로운 시간 보내고 여러가지 한국 문화에 대해 배워서 재밌었어요. 우리가 특히 박선생님을 많이 보고 싶을 것 같아요.

목요일에 비공식 문화체험을 위해 홍대에 있는 방탈출 카페에 갔어요. 탈출하는 동안 한국어로만 하기로 했어요. 우리가 송교수님, 박선생님, 그리고 저와 캐롤라인이 이끄는 3개의 팀을 나눴어요. 결국에는 한팀 밖에 탈출 못 했어요. 저와 캐롤라인의 팀이 특히 답답하고 억울했어요, 왜냐하면 힌트를 받고 싶었는데 전화가 계속 안 되서 30분 동안 한 자물쇠에 걸렸고 드디어 열렸을 때 방 하나 더 있는 걸 늦게 알게 됐고 탈출에 실패했어요. 그래도 재미있었고 힘을 다 합쳐서 문제 풀어야 해서 팀워크가 굉장히 좋았고 팀원들이 그 답답하고 급한 마음을 서로 공감할 수 있어서 더 친해졌어요.

Our final culture class this week was about dramas. It was a topic almost everyone was familiar with, so I think we were even more enthusiastic than usual, especially the girls. We spent most of the time chatting about the dramas we’ve watched and which ones we liked or disliked. We were also able to learn about Korean folklore and new vocabulary through Goblin. Overall, culture classes have been a fun time that provided a break from regular course work. I know we will all particularly miss Professor Park’s energy and fun teaching style.

As a sort of bonus activity, we all went as a class to an escape room in Hongdae. The challenge was to escape while using only Korean. We split up into three teams, led by Professor Song, Professor Park, and me and Caroline. In the end, only one team managed to escape their room. It was particularly frustrating for our team, because we had gone through things relatively quick but then spent half an hour on one lock and couldn’t call for hints because our phone wasn’t working. It turned out that we had a whole other room to do, and we probably could have completed it or at least gotten far if it weren’t for our misfortune. Either way, we all had a fun and memorable time.
