지난주에 저희는 초등학교에 가서 아이들과 만났어요. 제일 먼저 아이들에게 자기소개를 했어요. 그 다음에 여러가지 게임들을 했어요.

첫 번째로 커튼 게임을 했어요. 4명의 Rice대학교 학생들과 4명의 아이들이 무대에 서있으면 닫혀있던 커튼이 열려요. 그러면 나머지 사람들이 무대 아래에서 이름을 맞혀요.  이 게임을 하면서 재미있는 에피소드가 있었어요. Rice대학교 학생 중에 “코타”라는 학생이 있었는데 아이들은 커튼이 3번 열릴 때까지 이름을 외우지 못했어요. 아이들은 계속 “코티”아니면 “타코”라고 불렀어요.

두 번째 게임은 가위바위보 게임이었어요. 우선 옆에 있는 사람과 가위바위보를 해요. 진 사람이 이긴 사람을 응원해요. 이때 진 사람은 이긴 사람의 이름을 불러야 해요. 게임은 최후의 2인이 남을 때까지 진행돼요. 그런데 좁은 교실에서 아이들이 너무 뛰어다녀서 그들을 통제하기 어려웠어요.

마지막으로 아이엠그라운드 게임을 했어요. 저희가 이 게임을 잘 이해하지 못해서 아이들이 가르쳐 줬어요. 알단 모든 사람이 돌아가면서 자기소개를 해요. 그 다음에 한 사람이 다른 사람 이름을 부르면서 그 뒤에 숫자를 붙여요. 예를 들어, “캐롤라인 둘” 이라고 외쳐요. 그러면 지목당한 사람이 그 숫자만큼 자기 이름을 말해요. 아이들은 이 게임이 가장 재미있다고 했어요.

Last week we went to the elementary school and met up with the kids for the first time. We did self-introduction in turns as groups and played game to help both the kids and Rice students with memorizing the names.

Firstly, we played curtain games. 4 Rice students and 4 kids were standing on the stage with the curtain closed. The rest of the people needed to say out the name of the people who stood behind the curtain as soon as the curtain was opened and closed again. There were some interesting episodes in this game. There was a Rice student named ‘Kota’. The curtain was opened for three times but the kids memorized his name either as ‘Koty’ or ‘Taco’. This small episode made the kids like the student even better.

The second game was ‘paper, scissor, stone’ game. Firstly, every student randomly picked another student to play ‘paper, scissor, stone’ and the lost one had to follow the winner and shout out his/her name. Then the winner continued to find another winner to play the game until there were only two people left. It was a fun game but the kids were all running around the classroom, which made the game a little bit hard to control.

The last game was the traditional Korean frying pan game. At the end, the kids said that they liked the last game the most.
